Madhya Pradesh Hospital: 5 Women Suffer Delirium After C-Section Delivery
Rewa, Madhya Pradesh – In a concerning medical incident, five women aged 20-25 experienced delirium after undergoing C-section deliveries at Government Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa. The unusual cases were reported on Thursday at the facility, which is affiliated with Shyam Shah Government Medical College.
Medical Emergency and Investigation
Hospital officials acted swiftly to prevent the women from slipping into pre-coma or coma. “The women displayed symptoms of delirium after their Caesarean procedures. They were immediately transferred to the ICU for close monitoring,” said Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rahul Mishra. Four of the affected women have since stabilized and returned to the general ward, while one remains under intensive care.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the sudden memory loss and altered mental states. Preliminary suspicions point to a possible reaction to Bupivacaine, a drug commonly used in spinal anesthesia. As a precaution, the hospital has halted its use and sent samples for pharmacovigilance testing in Kolkata.
Current Status and Response
A team of medical experts is closely monitoring the patients’ recovery. According to Dr. Mishra, all five women are now in better condition, and efforts are underway to determine the exact cause of their unexpected reaction.
The incident has drawn attention as Rewa is the hometown of Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who also oversees the health department.
This developing case raises concerns about drug safety and anesthesia administration, with health officials working to ensure patient safety in future procedures.
