Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers believes his team can cause an upset in their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund. Read more about Rodgers’ confidence and Celtic’s strong start.

Rodgers Eyes Dortmund Upset After Celtic’s Impressive Win Over St Johnstone

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is full of confidence as his team gears up for a tough Champions League encounter against Borussia Dortmund. Following a dominant 6-0 victory over St Johnstone in the William Hill Premiership, Rodgers believes his squad has what it takes to pull off a surprise result in Germany.

The victory in Perth was a clear demonstration of Celtic’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity. With goals from Kyogo Furuhashi, Paulo Bernardo, Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah, the champions proved their quality in every aspect of the game. The team’s creativity, composure, and technical skill were on full display, giving them a strong boost of confidence ahead of their European test.

Celtic’s Momentum Building

Celtic have enjoyed a flying start to the season, and Rodgers is keen to keep the momentum going. “It was a great team performance,” said Rodgers after the St Johnstone win. “We’re in a good place, and this gives us the belief that we can go to Dortmund and challenge one of Europe’s best.”

Kyogo Furuhashi’s two goals were crucial, with the Japanese striker continuing his impressive form. The attacking trio of Furuhashi, Maeda, and new signing Adam Idah have been in sync, causing problems for opposition defenses throughout the season. The blend of experience and youth within the team has Rodgers believing that his side can compete on the European stage.

Dortmund Challenge Awaits

Borussia Dortmund will be a formidable opponent for Celtic. The German side is known for its fast, attacking football and passionate home support at Signal Iduna Park. However, Rodgers remains optimistic about his team’s chances, emphasizing their current form and mental strength. “Dortmund is a tough place to go, but we have no fear. We’ll go there and give it everything,” he added.

Rodgers has been planning meticulously for this Champions League clash. He is aware of the need for his side to stay defensively solid while also taking their opportunities in attack. Dortmund’s high press and quick transitions are areas Rodgers will be focusing on to ensure Celtic can nullify their threats.

Goals Galore for Celtic

In their recent win against St Johnstone, Celtic displayed clinical finishing. From Furuhashi’s brace to Maeda’s well-taken goal, Celtic’s attack looked sharp and hungry. Callum McGregor, Celtic’s captain, also got on the scoresheet, showcasing his leadership both on and off the pitch. Paulo Bernardo’s strike and Adam Idah’s first goal for the club rounded off a perfect performance for the Glasgow side.

Rodgers praised his team for their composure in front of goal and their ability to break down defenses with creative play. “The goals were of the highest quality,” Rodgers stated. “The buildup play, the passing, the movement – it was all fantastic. We’re going to need that same quality against Dortmund.”

Confidence Ahead of Champions League

The Champions League is a different challenge altogether, but Celtic’s domestic form gives them hope. As the Scottish champions, they have shown they can dominate domestically, and now they aim to make their mark in Europe. The match against Dortmund is set to be a thrilling encounter, with Rodgers’ side determined to cause an upset.

Celtic will be looking to their key players, including Furuhashi, McGregor, and Maeda, to deliver another strong performance. The defensive partnership of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt will also be vital in keeping Dortmund’s dangerous attackers at bay.

Rodgers Believes in His Squad

Brendan Rodgers’ belief in his squad is clear. He has been steadily building a team that plays attractive, attacking football while also being defensively solid. This balance will be crucial if Celtic is to come away from Dortmund with a positive result.

“We know the quality that Dortmund has, but we’re going there with a plan and belief in ourselves,” Rodgers reiterated. “We’ve got the talent and the heart to go toe-to-toe with them.”

With Celtic flying high in the league and confidence growing, all eyes will be on their Champions League clash. Fans will be hoping for a memorable night as Rodgers plots to upset the odds in Germany.
